John Terry and Tino Livramento react on Instagram as Chelsea confirm their youngster has been sold

Chelsea confirmed on Thursday that youngster Dion Rankine has left Stamford Bridge and joined Wigan Athletic on a permanent basis . The Blues announced via their official website that Dion Rankine has moved to League One club Wigan permanently.

He’s signed a three-year deal at Wigan and sealed a return to the third tier of English football after spending last season out on loan at Exeter City. Rankine, 21, has been on Chelsea’s books as a young talent since 2016.

The London-born wide man, who can play as a winger or a wing-back, leaves the Blues without making a senior appearance for them. He was a mainstay at youth level before going out on loan last year, though.

Rankine has posted a farewell message on his official Instagram account as he says goodbye to Chelsea after eight years. Blues legend John Terry has responded in the comment section. Similarly, former Chelsea player Tino Livramento has also replied.

How many more will follow Dion Rankine this summer?

Let’s see how many more Chelsea youngsters will go through the exit doors in this transfer window. Omari Hutchinson , 20, is another Blues player who impressed out on loan last season. He scored 10 league goals as Ipswich Town were promoted from the Championship to the Premier League.

But journalist Fabrizio Romano claimed via X earlier in June that Chelsea would consider transfer bids of around £25/30m to sell Hutchinson this summer . Our hope is that Chelsea’s academy prospects still feel like there’s a genuine pathway into the first team.
