I told £10m star to join my club but he chose Chelsea transfer instead

Brazilian wonderkid Pedro Lima continues to be linked with a move to the Blues – and now a Premier League star has spoke about the talented defender

Wolves star Matheus Cunha has revealed the advice he gave to potential new Chelsea signing Pedro Lima. The Blues are working on a deal to sign Lima from Brazilian club Sport Recife . Reports in Brazil have claimed that Chelsea have already made two offers to sign the 17-year- old, with the latest potentially worth up to £8 million (€10 million).

Recife are thought to be holding out for the fee in Lima’s release clause which is reportedly £10 million (€12 million) for clubs outside Brazil. It remains to be seen if Chelsea will activate the clause or continue negotiations to sign the right- back.

Liverpool, Manchester City, Paris Saint-Germain and Juventus have all been mentioned in various reports as expressing an interest in signing Lima. It seems, though, that another Premier League club may have been in the running.

Cunha has claimed that Wolves also made an attempt to try and sign Lima. However, the Brazilian has explained how he tried to convince his compatriot to move to Molineux, only to be informed that Lima had chosen to sign for Chelsea instead.

“Pedro Lima is a talent, he has a bright future. He is from Paraiba who comes to Recife and has a very similar story to me. I wish him the best,” Cunha told Brazilian news outlet Globo Esporte.

“I wanted him to be playing with me because I think Wolves were also interested. But he made his decision, Chelsea is a great club and I hope he plays and I hope to play against him often.”

“I think he leaves here at a time where he has a big spotlight, he is a boy who has a very big projection, that everyone expects a lot from him, but things don’t always happen the way we think they should happen,” Cunha added.

“He has to have a lot of patience to enjoy the process, he needs to continue like this so that he gets there and achieves things because one thing is here, another is there, another level.

“And he needs to have humility to recognise the moments of doubt, difficulties, which when you leave here are great. And may he have a lot of patience to reach the highest level of football. And may everything go well for him, as he is someone we will be rooting for a lot.”
