Blues signing Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall names the four former Chelsea players he grew up watching
Chelsea have just added yet another midfield option to their squad for next season. The Blues confirmed on Tuesday that they’ve completed the signing of Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall from Leicester City in a deal worth £30m ( Sky Sports). Dewsbury-Hall was due to be back in the Premier League in the 2024/25 campaign after helping Leicester to promotion from the Championship last year.
The central midfielder actually scored 12 goals and made 15 assists across all competitions. Now, he’s back in the top division as a Chelsea player. Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall names Chelsea inspirations Dewsbury-Hall has shared in his first interview as a Chelsea star that he grew up watching four former Blues individuals as inspirations. He’s mentioned Frank Lampard , Cesc Fabregas , Juan Mata and N’Golo Kante as players he used to watch.
“There are quite a lot of Chelsea players that I grew up watching,” Dewsbury-Hall said via Chelsea’s official website . “The obvious one’s Lampard. Goalscoring midfielder. Something that I like to try and implement in my game now. “But also players like Fabregas and Mata. Just top quality- players that played for the club.
“And Kante. Obviously. I was at Leicester with him. I was in as a scholar while he was the first team, so seeing him progress and move on and do great things in the club just gives me extra motivation to try and do a similar sort of thing.”
The current Blues midfield is stacked Chelsea don’t yet have the calibre of midfielder to compare with the likes of Lampard and Fabregas. However, there’s no doubting the Blues have a lot of talent and depth in the centre of the park. Dewsbury-Hall is walking into a Chelsea group where nailing down a permanent spot in midfield is going to be a serious challenge. One thing in his favour is that he knows Maresca’s system very well after last year.
