Chelsea can still complete sensational £60m transfer as ambitious Nico Williams hijack planned

Enzo Maresca is now getting his groove on at Chelsea as pre- season peers around the corner. The Italian head coach is already into his second week working with some of his players, and more are sure to follow. There is already a packed group available to the former Leicester City boss and that number will only grow when returning stars from the Copa America and European Championship are back in the building.

This is without considering the signings set to come too. Chelsea have been quick with their business so far but are yet to make a statement addition ahead of the 2024/25 season. Maresca may well be keen to change that before he heads off to America but there is work to do and nothing is yet close.

Marc Guehi battle

Chelsea have not ruled out re-signing Marc Guehi this morning, according to GiveMeSport. The player entered the summer window as one to watch with Crystal Palace said to be expecting the sale of at least one of Michael Olise, Eberechi Eze, and Guehi. Olise has since left, whilst Eze and Guehi remain of interest to clubs across England including Chelsea, Liverpool, Tottenham, and Arsenal . Guehi could be available for around £60-£65million.

The England international left Stamford Bridge in 2021 for around £20million and has since gone on to flourish, becoming a key part of Gareth Southgate’s Euro 2024 squad in the last month . It is stated that Guehi remains one to watch heading into the middle of the summer with Guehi considering his options and attention being paid to him.

Nico Williams hijack

After all the talk of Barcelona, Arsenal, and Chelsea, Aston Villa have now entered the conversation. According to teamTALK they have opened dialogue with Nico Williams’ representatives. Villa are also said to be attracting attention from Manchester United over Moussa Diaby, who only joined 12 months ago.

Could it be a case of one in, one out in the Midlands?

Well, maybe. Williams’ preference is still thought to be Barcelona, but the longer things go on the more other teams come into it, and earlier this week the Athletic reported that Chelsea still feel well-placed to stay in and around the conversation here.
