Chelsea ‘Considering’ Shock Move For Sesko Alternative Who Scored Only 8 Goals Last Campaign

Everton striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin is “among the options” that Chelsea are “considering” if they miss out on RB Leipzig’s Benjamin Sesko, according to the Daily Mail. In what is a very surprising development, the Blues are said to be weighing up a move for the 27-year-old who has struggled for form and fitness in recent years.

Calvert-Lewin did play 38 games last season, but he only scored 8 goals in all competitions for the Toffees. Previous campaigns have seen him sidelined with multiple injuries. In the past three years, he has spent 410 days out of contention, missing a total of 69 matches.

Calvert-Lewin could be signed for a pretty low fee One of the reasons that Chelsea have targeted the England international is because he has reached the final year of his contract at Goodison Park.

Everton have offered Calvert-Lewin an extension but, if he doesn’t sign on the dotted line, the Merseyside club would be forced into selling him before the summer transfer window closes. If he were to make the switch to Stamford Bridge, he would provide competition for Nicolas Jackson without necessarily blocking the Senegalese international’s progress.

Are Chelsea in danger of losing out on Sesko?

There are plenty of clubs keen on signing the Slovenian international, with Arsenal and Manchester United among those who have reportedly made the player an offer. While the Blues are said to be willing to pay Sesko’s €65m (£55m) release clause, they have to be prepared for the striker to turn them down and join another team.

Calvert-Lewin is likely to be just one of several backup options that the club have looked at. The likes of Aston Villa’s Jhon Duran and potentially Brighton’s Evan Ferguson may also be targeted if Sesko goes elsewhere. Bids for the likes of Victor Osimhen, Ivan Toney and Viktor Gyokeres have been ruled out.
