Chelsea reach ‘agreement in principle’ to sign defender – Six-year contract ready to be signed

Chelsea now seem to be taking the final steps to sign Aarón Anselmino from Boca Juniors. According to Argentine journalist Germán García Grova, the clubs have reached an agreement in principle for the transfer.

It’s said that Chelsea will be paying US$18m plus potential performance bonuses, and already have a six-year contract waiting for Anselmino. Now since the South American season runs until the end of the year, there’s that old battle to keep the defender for a little longer.

Grova reports that Boca Juniors would like to have Anselmino in their squad until December, while Chelsea want him ‘in Europe’. Those last couple of words may be a sign that the Blues don’t even plan to have him in their squad for next season, and would rather have him loaned to a European club than in South America.

Anselmino only has ten appearances for Boca Juniors’ first team, but those were more than enough to draw interest from several clubs. Manchester United were also said to be chasing him, but it seems Chelsea were quick to find a deal first.
