Full Chelsea 25-man squad after transfer deadline day as Jadon Sancho to join forgotten duo
Chelsea now have quite an impressive 25-man squad, if all of their players are fit and available, following transfer deadline day. The Blues agreed a deal to sign Jadon Sancho on loan from Manchester United , with Raheem Sterling, Trevoh Chalobah and Armando Broja all sealing exits at the eleventh hour.
In the final weeks of August, the likes of Romelu Lukaku and Conor Gallagher were able to seal permanent departures with Pedro Neto and Joao Felix both signed on long-term deals. Unsurprisingly, it was another busy transfer window at Stamford Bridge with well over 30 moves completed.
The Blues spent in the region of £200million to make new signings, however they were subsequently able to raise just under £150million through player sales. Due to the sheer amount of players at his disposal, Enzo Maresca chose to brutally axe Sterling, Ben Chilwell and Chalobah from the first-team group.
Though Lukaku, Broja and Sterling all managed to complete moves elsewhere, Maresca is inundated with attacking options. Cole Palmer is a clear undroppable and following his hat-trick against Wolves, Noni Madueke has put himself in the best possible position to be in future starting XI’s.
With no striker acquired, Nicolas Jackson continuing to lead the line looks the most likely outcome which leaves just one spot for Christopher Nkunku, Felix, Neto, Mykhailo Mudryk and now Sancho to compete for.
Options in midfield are much more limited in comparison to the stars available further forward. Forgotten star Carney Chukwuemeka is still in west London, but does not look to be at the forefront of Maresca’s plans which may leave Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall and Romeo Lavia as his options in support of Enzo Fernandez and Moises Caicedo.
Several defensive arrivals have also taken place, though none currently appear in Maresca’s favoured starting XI. Renato Veiga, Tosin Adarabioyo and Filip Jorgensen have all joined which has given Maresca some real dilemmas and that is without including Reece James, who is still suspended and injured.
Of the 25 stars expected to be in Chelsea’s upcoming matchday squads, eight are new arrivals and that could see two senior stars miss out.
