“I strive for that…” – Amadou Onana makes honest transfer admission amid Manchester United interest
Everton midfielder Amadou Onana has made an honest transfer admission ahead of his Euro 2024 campaign with Belgium. Onana, 22, has been linked with a United move for some time now and is one of two Everton players that the Old Trafford club are interested in.
While Jarrad Branthwaite appears to be the primary target from the Toffees, it has previously been claimed that Erik ten Hag was the stumbling block between United advancing in a move for the midfielder.
The Dutchman’s future at Old Trafford is now uncertain, and if he does leave, then it could open the door for a deal to be done for the talented midfielder. It has been well-reported that INEOS is looking to sign a midfield player who could complement the extraordinary Kobbie Mainoo in the middle of the park.
Onana could fit that bill, and it appears that the 22-year-old is ready for the next step after competing with his country in the European Championships this summer. He has explained in a recent interview that he feels this tournament could provide him the opportunity to show his quality to the top clubs in Europe as many other players have done in the past.
“At previous tournaments, you have seen that the players who did well make the step up to the top clubs,” he told Het Laatste Nieuws, as per MEN . “That’s something I strive for. “I feel like presenting myself to the European top and showing what I have to offer. This European Championship is a stage.”
Onana’s suggestion that he is prepared to leave Everton could be great news for United should they decide to pursue a potential deal for him. Other midfielders linked to an Old Trafford move include the likes of Joao Neves of Benfica and Sporting Lisbon star Morten Hjulmand .
