Tosin Adarabioyo sends wordless message to Cole Palmer on Instagram after England penalty
It is fair to say that new Chelsea signing Tosin Adarabioyo was impressed with Cole Palmer’s penalty on Saturday. England’s quarter-final tie against Switzerland at Euro 2024 went to penalties after the game finished 1-1. Cole Palmer stepped up first and did not disappoint with his spot-kick.
The Chelsea attacker sent Yann Sommer the wrong way and set England on their way to victory. Palmer, as most footballers do today, took to Instagram after the game to celebrate the win.
Tosin Adarabioyo applauds Cole Palmer
A former England youth international, Adarabioyo would have been watching the Three Lions in action and hoping for a win, which Gareth Southgate’s men managed to get in the end. Palmer played his part with his excellent penalty in the shoot- out, resulting in praise from his new Chelsea teammate Adarabioyo.
After the match, the central defender responded to Palmer’s post with a couple of clapping emojis, clearly impressed with the 22-year-old’s spot-kick and achievement of reaching the semi-finals. Adarabioyo will now get the chance to play with Palmer in Chelsea’s first team after joining the Blues from Fulham earlier this summer.
Tosin Adarabioyo now part of Chelsea’s English core
Palmer is not the only English player at Chelsea right now. The Blues also have the likes of Conor Gallagher, who is competing at Euro 2024 as well, captain Reece James, Levi Colwill, Ben Chilwell, Raheem Sterling and Noni Madueke. Adarabioyo now joins that group and will be hoping that he can become an England international one day like the majority of those names.
However, the 26-year-old may find it difficult to get into Chelsea’s starting XI. He has to compete against Colwill, Benoit Badiashile, Axel Disasi and Wesley Fofana for a place in Enzo Maresca ‘s team. Trevoh Chalobah is still at the club, too, so that could be another body in his way.
