What Chelsea’s Levi Colwill said in phone call with Bayern Munich as they try to sign him
Reports recently have linked one of Chelsea’s top players with a move away to one of the biggest clubs in Europe this summer. It was claimed that Bayern Munich, no longer led by Thomas Tuchel, were really interested in a move to sign Levi Colwill this summer in order to address their defensive woes.
It quickly emerged that the club were pretty adamant that they would not be willing to sell him, although another report said a mega offer could sway their thinking. There is faith in West London that the England international can become a captain at Stamford Bridge in the future, and he is likely to play a key role under new manager Enzo Maresca.
While he is reportedly excited to get working with the new boss, claims that the Bundesliga side are interested in a deal have not gone away. According to The Byline, they even reached out via phone call to Colwill and his camp, however they were met with a firm rejection when they spoke.
Instead, the youngster was only interested in his work at Stamford Bridge, which will no doubt be a real boost to Chelsea fans who are of the belief he will become one of the best in world football.
Last season was his first as a senior pro at the club, and Mauricio Pochettino certainly took his time to feature him in his best position. Instead, he preferred to start him in more of a left-back role, where at times he clearly didn’t look completely comfortable.
However, a shift to the middle got the best out of him again, and right now there is no doubt that Colwill is part of the club’s strongest backline, likely also featuring Reece James, Axel Disasi and Marc Cucurella at this stage.
There is hope that Wesley Fofana could be on his way back from serious injury to also compete for minutes at the back again.
